Whenever people ask me about my home country of South Africa I urge them to visit. It is a beautiful country with lots to offer any traveler. In fact I couldn’t think of a more fun place to spend your honeymoon. One of my favorite places in South Africa is the Kruger National Park. This wildlife preserve is an incredible place to spend some time relaxing and reflecting on the way things used to be. The scenery and terrain changes as you drive through the park and you spend time looking for game in wide open grasslands as well as dense riverine bush. This photograph was taken by my father, Peter, who has been into photography for a lot longer than I have. It shows a typical riverside road flanked by fever trees and lightly sprinkled with flowers that have dropped from the beautiful thorn trees that also line the road. Although this sight is enough to make me more than a little homesick it is what lies around the next bend in the road that brings a tear to my eye. In the early morning as you set out from camp it could be a small herd of elephant quietly slipping through the trees, or a lone bull buffalo, old and more than a little irate. In the evening, as you return from a dusty afternoon drive, it is the call of a cold beer and conversation around a hardwood fire. Thanks for the photo Dad, I hope that you don’t mind me posting it here.
