Presenting Caitlin Oosthuizen

What a day!

It started with Erin in a typical state of denial. Between the hours of 7 and 8am Erin repeatedly told me that she was not having contractions and that she would get over it and that I shouldn’t worry about it..Needless to say she was wrong on all three counts. Unfortunately I had committed to a full day of work on the prior understanding that today would NOT be the day that we had the baby, and I use the term “we ” very loosely. So at 8:25am I drop Erin unceremoniously on the sidewalk outside Pennsylvania Hospital and, feeling like a jerk, drive to work. By the way, have I told you all that I am married to the worlds most incredible woman. She walks calmly in and announces that she thinks she may be having a baby. 2 hours later she is 7cm dilated. Fast forward 6 hours and I finally get out of what I am doing and rush to the hospital, only to be kept waiting until 8:21pm when our perfect addition to the family arrived after 3 sets of 3 pushes, easy-peasy!! A little girl, as predicted, who we have decided to name Caitlin. Other names that we considered were Caylin, Skye and Jessica but when it came down to it Caitlin seems right. We don’t have a second/middle name yet and might just leave it at Caitlin Oosthuizen.

Thanks to Dad who looked after Ella all day, and Mom who held Erin’s hand while I was away and who also cut the umbilical cord after Caitlin arrived. We couldn’t have done this without you. I’d also like to thank our neighbor, John, who looked after Ella for an hour after Erin finally admitted that this might be it and consented to being taken to the hospital.

In summary. Caitlin Oosthuizen was born this evening, Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 8:21pm. She weighed in at 8lb 6oz. I had to leave before her reach was measured but she seems a tad shorter than Ella’s 21 inches.

Here are a few shots taken between 6:30pm & 8:30pm tonight. There will be lots more to follow.

The last picture is of course our little trooper Ella. This was taken an hour and a half after her usual bed time and is the perfect picture of her incredible temperament. You are our superstar baby, your little sister has got big shoes to fill!

Hey – what a thrill to come off the golf course to see a missed call from SJMO! Tried a call back – message!!!!! Then phoned Esther who said Simon had a little girl but that he’d also spoken to Fiona who was home ill. Got the good news name Caitlin, mom and baby doing well – I’m delighted as is Ingrid and the Flea. We love you guys so much and can’t wait to see the latest addition. Big hugs and kisses all round – a big one to the little trooper!!

oh my gosh. aunt aims had to shed so many tears! i’m not sure why i’m just now tuning into this whole blog idea, but simmy, thanks for all the inspiring words about love and family and the gorgeous, gorgeous photos of that sweet sis of mine. the pregnant belly shots are gorgeous.

and the ones from yesterday…wow.

i love how caitlin’s hands are clasped like a little human about to share her entry into the world story over a cup of coffee or something.
so glad the whole family looks so healthy and blessed.

the shot of mom cutting the ambilical cord really got to me…there’s just something about seeing your mother’s hands, you know? just so nurturing and real and honest. i don’t know. i just love that photo-the lighting, the focus. what a magical experience for her to be able to be in the room.

i can’t wait to see you all together next thursday.
hugs and kisses from the big eeze.

Thanks to all of you for saying how do. The last few days have been a trip. I’m not sure that this will ever get boring so who knows how many little Oostys we’ll end up having. I’ll have to speak to the boss.

Erin is doing awesome and so is the littlest O. I just came from the hospital where the two of them are bonding over a cup of tea…well you get the idea.

We’ll get them both home tomorrow and I promise that here will be some color shots up here in the next few days.

Love you all,

Si and his girls.

Hey Si and Erin – well done and welcome to Caitlin. Sounds like another typical day in the Oosthuizen household! Mom’s seem to do it all much quicker and easier than the “old days” and the photo’s make you seem a lot closer to us here in SA. Lots of love and hugs.
