Nou is daai kole net reg!! (Happy Memorial Day!)

Nou is daai kole net reg….that’s Afrikaans and loosely translated means….Those coals are perfect!

This is one of those tongue in cheek comments that frequently interrupts the perfect silence AFTER the steaks are removed from the grill at one of my family’s braais (which directly translated means BBQ).

Now that I am a South African living in the USA holidays like Memorial Day help to keep me sane. Starting Thursday Erin had college friends visiting and I managed to get away with firing up the grill 4 times in 4 days. 4 Happy Days!! We started with T-Bones on Thursday followed by ribs and cheesesteaks on Friday. Ouma and Oupa joined the crew on Saturday for more T-Bones and Apple Pie, courtesy of Ouma. We capped it off with another couple of racks and corn on the cob tonight. I’m looking out of my window now at the Weber and it is still glowing…I think that the coals are probably perfect for a few rib-eyes!!!

Thanks to Ange, Brandon, Trevin and Kellie for making the trip to Philly. We had an amazing time with you guys and are going to miss you, especially you “T”. Thanks Mom and Dad for making the trip into the city and joining us on Saturday night.

Great shots, Si! Absolutely love the picture of Ella and Trevin walking hand in hand down the street with their “car” parked in the background. A definite Hallmark card. Great to see Kell, Ange, Brandon and Trevin. Thanks for the great meal and lovely evening.
Love,
Oupa Lyons

I miss you guys already! Thank you for a wonderful weekend. You were so hospitable- and Simon, the meals were amazing! I loved the time we got to spend outside with the kids. They are truly bundles of joy!
Love you, and hope that we can do this again very soon!

Na jou beskrywing van die braaivleis het my tong net uitgehang.
(My tongue was hanging out after the description of the braai)

How sweet! I love the picture of Trevin and Ella holding hands. Who would have known that that very same day he would have blamed her for “poking his eye out”. We truly had a wonderful time. It was so nice catching up again and the food was wonderful! Can we come back again next week? Just kidding, you guys need about a years rest after the Jordan tornado came through;)

What beautiful pictures! It looks as if little T and Ella are the best of friends already. And it is incredible to see the second generation starting to grow : )
Simon, I love checking your website. It is such a nice window into your and Erin’s family.
Sending my love to you all!

Hey Boet! Am jealous! The kids are looking fantastic – and your weather even better! We had a bank holiday washout of a weekend – was truly revolting, it rained so much the kids didn’t even get the chance to play out.. Am counting down the weeks now – not long ’til we see you all – hope you can save some of those braais for us (along with some of that glorious sunshine too!)
Love ya – speak soon,
Me
xx
