Yeshe & Mike

On Saturday I photographed a wedding which represented the end of a vicarious journey for me.

Three years ago I started a new job and became friends with Lauren, the sister of the groom. In those three years, through photographs and stories, I have traveled back and forth between the U.S., Tibet and China as Michael’s incredible story has unfurled.

Saturday’s small gathering of family and friends was a fitting beginning to Mike and Yeshe’s new journey together. The ceremony was incredible as Mike translated each English word for his new Tibetan wife. The fact that few of those in attendance could undertsand what was being said between the Bride and Groom seemed to heighten the intimacy of the celebration.

The highlight of the day for me was the exchanging of the katak’s. Thanks to all of the Sheehys for including me in this special day.

Simon,
These photos are great and a true reflection of what a romantic day it was for my brother and his new wife. I can’t wait to share them with the rest of our family for years to come. Thank you for being part of this day, capturing all the memories and being such a great friend.

Simon,

Wow, those are marvelous. You certainly captured the day & for that, we are grateful. You saw angels & images that I overlooked or did not see at all. Yeshe & I are thrilled with the photos! She will be staring at them for weeks, & we’ll share them with her family back in Tibet.

We are also glad that you were able to join our wedding celebration.

As we say in Tibetan, “Tashi tsering loja!” …

Mike and Yeshe,

Thanks again for having me. It was a special day and it was a joy to be part of it.

One of the really special aspects of my job is when I get home and look through the images and see the love between two people, and it is made even more rewarding when those two people are able to see what others see in them.

All the best for a wonderful and fulfilling future.

I think that this is supposed to precede my comments but I’ll place it here and you can correct me if necessary, “Tashi deleg!”
