Who woulda believed that 2008 would be over in the blink of an eye.
I can still remember how far away next Christmas seemed, and was, when I was just a wee lad. That being said ’08 was another special year for me and the other Oosty, Erin. We welcomed Caitlin to the family in March and celebrated Ella’s second birthday with the first broken bones in the family since my University Rugby induced broken leg (does anybody remember 1991?).
Business has been good too (Mom)! I’ve met many wonderful people and been a part of many special days. I’ve visited some cool American cities, some for the first time and others on return trips. Chicago is where I proposed to Erin and it was great to be back. Houston was hot but full of incredible people. Charlottesville VA was wet but is probably on the list of must go back when it’s not. Newport RI and the short stop in Connecticut on the way up was a highlight of the year. The leaves were just turning and the place was enchanting. And who could forget home. Philadelphia. What a time to be in Philly, the year that the Phils finally brought it home again. World F@#$ing Champions!!!
July and September were special months too. My sister and family made the trip from Birmingham, England, and spent the month of July hanging out in Philly. The silence was deafening when they left and it took us a good few weeks to get out of the Sunday afternoon funk. We truly loved having you guys and I am unbelievably proud of us Ro. Only one small fight in 3 weeks. A new record to beat the next time we meet. Love you! In September my Dad and his skelm (skelm is Afrikaans and loosely translated means girlfriend) visited us in Philly and the family overload continued. Living so far away from the family really makes you appreciate the times that you do see them even more. Thanks for making the trip guys. We all love and miss you.
Which brings us back to Christmas and the reason for this post. Being the highly organized people that Erin and I are we were about to mail our Christmas cards earlier this week (yes THIS week). This left me no time to take, print and insert the holiday picture, which is obligatory these days and even more so if you happen to be a photographer by profession. I managed to convince E that a blog entry would serve the same purpose and would in fact be better than the mail because you would all get to see it this year!! So enjoy. As for the duplicate kids. You try taking a picture of two kids, with smiles, facing the camera, with yourself in the shot. I wanted you all to know how I felt.
Happy Christmas Everybody.
See you all in 2009, wherever it may be!
Love,
Simon, Erin, Ella and Caitlin
